JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, assists the Paving Department personnel with routine maintenance work on Community streets, sidewalks and storm drains; performs related work as required. Work is usually performed as part of a crew. Work involves regular contact with other departments and divisions.

Requirements

Educational development which produces the ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to the carrying out of oral or written instructions and experience in cement, asphalt, street painting and operations of maintenance equipment or any equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job
Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations.
Ability to perform the field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the area of assignment.
Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
Ability to communicate effectively with others in English and Spanish.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments and the public.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Ability to pass respiratory pulmonary function test and annual medical examination.
Ability to pass qualitative and/or quantitative respirator fit test.
