About The Position

The Paving Machine Operator’s primary function is to operate the asphalt paving machines that lay and finish asphalt. May perform manual labor such as shoveling, spreading gravel and maintaing equipment. The operator must perform daily maintenance checks and report any mechanical or safety issues to a supervisor. In addition, the operator may be required to perform minor repairs to the equipment and is expected to assist in the general operation of each job site.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pass pre-employment screen and criminal background check
  • A valid driver's license and a clean motor-vehicle record
  • Previous experience operating a Paver and/or other asphalt equipment
  • Ability to communicate verbally with others on site, in person and over the telephone, ability to read printed materials, signs and directions.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.
  • The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
  • The above listed duties require periods of standing, walking, stooping and bending. Employee must be able to climb equipment’s ladder to reach the operators seat.

Responsibilities

  • Uses specialized machines to spread asphaltover a surface.
  • Performs minor routine maintenance on paving machines and other paving equipment and tools.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning prior to starting work.
  • Prior to every use, evaluate the equipment and confirm that the equipment from a mechanical and safety standpoint is ready to use.
