About The Position

Educational incentives offered: 3% pay increase for Bachelor’s Degree and an additional 3% pay increase for Master’s degree! Weekly stipend payments range from $25 to $125 for members of specialized units! Shift Differential paid at $0.50/hour for 2nd shift (2 pm thru 9 pm) and $0.75/hour for 3rd shift (9 pm thru 7 am). A current Tennessee P.O.S.T Certified candidate would be a candidate who has worked as a full-time police officer in Tennessee within the last 3 years. Will also accept out of state law enforcement certifications, but candidate would need to complete Tennessee P.O.S.T. Transition Academy upon hire. Investigates crimes and accidents, protects property, facilities, and citizens. Patrols commercial, business, industrial, and residential districts within the city limits enforcing City Ordinances and State laws. Investigates traffic accidents and makes reports of same. Investigates crimes, reports findings, and makes arrests of suspects. Directs and controls traffic. Testifies in court or legal proceedings. Operates and maintains law enforcement equipment. Investigates, reports and follows-up on various violations of the laws of Tennessee and of the Ordinances of the City of Lebanon. Send and receive email, including attachments, using Microsoft Outlook software. Speaks to community groups on methods of crime prevention. Assists other departmental staff as directed by supervisor. Hours vary including 2nd and 3rd shift.

Requirements

  • MUST BE A CURRENT CERTIFIED CANDIDATE.
  • A current Tennessee P.O.S.T Certified candidate would be a candidate who has worked as a full-time police officer in Tennessee within the last 3 years. Will also accept out of state law enforcement certifications, but candidate would need to complete Tennessee P.O.S.T. Transition Academy upon hire.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required. Some college coursework is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License with a good record.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving “moral turpitude” as the term is defined by law and not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any of the armed forces of the United States.
  • Must have good moral character.
  • Successful completion of a physical examination by a licensed physician.
  • Be free from all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnosis and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association and be certified as meeting these criteria by a qualified professional in the psychiatric and psychological fields.
  • Basic proficiency with Windows and MS Office is required. Prior experience utilizing basic Microsoft Word and Outlook is strongly desired.
  • Must meet TCA 38-8-106 (Qualifications for Police Officers) requirements.
  • Must be a Tennessee Certified Police Officer with an active P.O.S.T. certification or an out-of-state certified police officer that is eligible to complete the Tennessee P.O.S.T. transition academy.
