About The Position

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance. Operates KHI patient transport lift-equipped van or stretcher van to safely transport KHI patients for non-emergent, non-urgent medical-related needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid, unrestricted Arizona driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • American Heart Association Heart Saver Certification within three (3) months of hire
  • Demonstrates a combination of education, training, and experience to operate and maintain a lift-equipped van and to assist passengers, which includes:
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and safety requirements relating to the operation of a lift-equipped van
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques
  • Knowledge of the geography and street layout of the greater Kingman area and outlaying communities
  • Knowledge of the operation, fueling, and general maintenance of transit vehicles,
  • Knowledge of wheelchair lifts, stretcher cots, safety equipment
  • Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance procedures
  • Ability to assist persons with disabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a variety of customers
  • Ability to maintain clear and accurate records, logs, and reports
  • Ability to effectively respond to emergencies on and around the vehicle
  • Ability to work varied hours, days, and shifts
  • Able to comply with regulatory vision requirements for driving patient-lift vehicle
  • Able to lift and maneuver equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Assists with transfer of patients from our hospital to outside health care facilities.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases
  • Ability to sit for 3-5 hours per day
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift for 5-8 hours per day

  • Previous experience with commercial customer transport

Responsibilities

  • Responds on an on-call basis to hospital department requests to transport non-emergent, non-urgent patients to and from hospital facilities using the KHI van.
  • Assists passengers, including elderly and disabled, in boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  • Operates the wheelchair lift and stretcher cot for non-ambulatory riders.
  • Secures wheelchairs, stretchers and other equipment using van tie-down systems.
  • Completes vehicle pre and post-use inspections including vehicle maintenance, completes logs and maintains reporting.
  • Operates van using extreme caution and defensive driving techniques; provides excellent customer service and ensures passenger safety at all times.
  • Administers first aid/CPR to patients in emergency situations.
  • Reports safety concerns immediately to appropriate staff.
  • Complies with all Federal, State, organizational, and departmental policies and procedures.
