About The Position

As a Patient Support Representative , you will be responsible for assisting uninsured and underinsured in-house patients in identifying eligibility for third-party reimbursement programs. You will meet with patients bedside, guide them through applications, gather documentation, and serve as a liaison between the patient, healthcare agencies, and hospital staff. This role is essential to improving access to care and ensuring accurate, efficient reimbursement workflows within the facility.

Requirements

  • Previous customer service experience, preferably in a patient-facing or service-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment and word processing software.
  • Basic mathematical competency.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills with patients, hospital staff, coworkers, and guests.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, including: Problem-solving Negotiation Conflict management Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion in sensitive or emotionally charged situations.

Responsibilities

  • Review daily in-house census and referrals for all self-pay patients.
  • Screen uninsured/underinsured patients to determine eligibility for financial assistance, charity care, or third-party programs.
  • Conduct bedside interviews with patients and/or families.
  • Complete financial assistance and reimbursement applications accurately and thoroughly.
  • Assist patients in obtaining necessary supporting documents.
  • Schedule agency appointments when required and maintain communication throughout the process.
  • Serve as liaison between the patient, payer agencies, and relevant hospital departments.
  • Maintain detailed account notes and update systems each time work is completed.
  • Respond promptly to patient and hospital staff inquiries.
  • Ensure each patient account is worked at least every 10 business days.
  • Occasionally travel locally by automobile for: Home visits or government agency visits Training or meetings at regional RCA offices Training or meetings at an alternative facility (Mileage reimbursed.)
