Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Attendance of Patient Safety Class
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Patient sitters provide key assistance with patients who require special precautions.
  • Sitters are responsible for remaining with the assigned patient at all times during their assigned shift except when relieved by staff for break and meal times; and are expected to remain awake, alert and observant to prevent injury or escape.
  • Sitters are also expected to comply with hospital policies on confidentiality, infection control and compassionate care.
  • Adherence to patient restrictions and ability to appropriately manage aggressive, violent, and confused behavior required.
  • While sitters provide a key assist to the nursing staff, they are not to perform any form of direct patient care.
  • Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.
