The Patient Service Representative (PSR) plays a crucial role in the operations of Advocate Health, serving as the initial point of contact for patients and ensuring the integrity of their electronic health records. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate patient medical records, preventing duplicates, and ensuring compliance with patient identification mandates for safety. Key duties include patient check-in and registration, verifying demographic and insurance information, and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. The PSR must possess a strong understanding of insurance plans, financial obligations, and government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and ABN, ensuring all necessary forms and signatures are obtained. Additionally, the role involves scheduling appointments, providing detailed pre-visit information, performing visit closure tasks like scheduling follow-ups and providing after-visit summaries, and supporting patients with the patient portal/app. The PSR is expected to create a welcoming environment, demonstrate exceptional customer service, handle telephone inquiries, maintain confidentiality, and proactively communicate issues to management. They may also assist patients with transportation, directions, and interpreter services, manage electronic documents and work queues, and contribute to department orientation and training. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, independent thinking, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency with computer systems and office technology.
