This role is responsible and accountable for coordinating information and support to ensure a smooth flow of patients within the Swedish Medical Center and Emergency Department. The Patient Service Representative provides front-line customer service, including reception and patient registration. Key duties involve interviewing patients and their families to gather demographic and financial data, completing necessary consents, directing or escorting patients, and managing valuables and deposits. This position serves as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors with questions regarding billing, insurance, or collections. The representative also assists patients in applying for financial assistance programs, processes related paperwork, and helps identify alternative coverage sources for hospital stays, including setting up payment arrangements for private pay accounts. The role acts as a POS team expert, facilitating all aspects of patient registration during hospitalization, and coordinates coverage issues with Physician Offices and other POS team members to ensure timely and accurate patient information flow. The individual will participate in quality improvement activities for both the Medical Center and Emergency Department and may be assigned special projects. Flexibility is required for occasional unscheduled shifts or portions of shifts due to urgent situations or sick calls, and the ability to assist in finding coverage for absences is also expected. Providence Swedish emphasizes a culture of patient-focused, whole-person care, valuing and empowering its caregivers.
