About The Position

This role is responsible and accountable for coordinating information and support to ensure a smooth flow of patients within the Swedish Medical Center and Emergency Department. The Patient Service Representative provides front-line customer service, including reception and patient registration. Key duties involve interviewing patients and their families to gather demographic and financial data, completing necessary consents, directing or escorting patients, and managing valuables and deposits. This position serves as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors with questions regarding billing, insurance, or collections. The representative also assists patients in applying for financial assistance programs, processes related paperwork, and helps identify alternative coverage sources for hospital stays, including setting up payment arrangements for private pay accounts. The role acts as a POS team expert, facilitating all aspects of patient registration during hospitalization, and coordinates coverage issues with Physician Offices and other POS team members to ensure timely and accurate patient information flow. The individual will participate in quality improvement activities for both the Medical Center and Emergency Department and may be assigned special projects. Flexibility is required for occasional unscheduled shifts or portions of shifts due to urgent situations or sick calls, and the ability to assist in finding coverage for absences is also expected. Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience in a medical setting with inpatient or outpatient admitting
  • Patient Registration or financial counseling or insurance and medical terminology experience

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate information and support for the flow of patients in the Swedish Medical Center and Emergency Department environment
  • Provide front line customer service including reception and Registration
  • Interview patients and family to obtain required demographic and financial data
  • Complete consents
  • Escort/direct patients
  • Collect valuables and deposits
  • Serve as initial contact for any patients/visitors with general billing, insurance or collection questions/concerns
  • Assist patients requesting financial assistance through financial aide programs, processing all necessary paperwork
  • Serve as a conduit to appropriate staff to assist patients in determining alternate sources of coverage for hospital stays including payment arrangements for private pay accounts
  • Serve as the POS team expert to facilitate all aspects of registration functions for patients during their hospitalization
  • Coordinate coverage issues with the Physician Offices and the POS team members
  • Assure timely and accurate patient information flow
  • Participate in quality improvement activities of the Medical Center and Emergency Department
  • Perform other special project assignments as directed
  • Be flexible in working occasional unscheduled shifts or portions of shifts due to urgent situations and or sick calls/assists in finding coverage for absences as needed
