About The Position

The Patient Registrar I - Floater is responsible for performing patient registration and scheduling within a busy imaging department and/or outpatient office. This includes obtaining financial and clinical information, insurance data, and authorizations. As the first point of contact, this role involves interacting with patients, registering them for labs, and checking them in efficiently and accurately. Key duties include obtaining identity, insurance, workers' compensation, or motor vehicle accident information, answering and routing calls, responding to questions, and directing inquiries to appropriate departments. The registrar also requests scripts from physician offices, documents critical results, and operates computer systems and office equipment safely. The position requires superior customer service and phone skills, the ability to manage difficult patient satisfaction issues, and professional interaction with patients, family members, physicians, and staff. Adherence to mandatory education, safety, infection control, professionalism, and dress code is essential, along with performing work safely and reporting any hazards.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years experience in a medical, financial, or customers service environment.
  • Knowledge of hospital and/or office radiology, clerical and billing procedures/functions including related equipment use and operation.
  • Knowledge of computer scheduling for multiple providers.
  • Knowledge of clerical methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of office equipment and machines.
  • Knowledge of criteria for safe scheduling parameters (MRI Hazards) when needed.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and handle various tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to function independently, set work schedule and short-term goals to maximize productivity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain superior quality customer relations with patients, patient’s families, Christiana Care staff, visitors, insurance companies, physicians, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • First point of contact interacting with patients
  • Register patients for labs and check in patients efficiently and accurately.
  • Obtains identity, insurance and/or workers compensation information or motor vehicle accident information
  • Answer and route calls into the Outpatient department
  • Responds to questions and concerns and directs them to appropriate location or department.
  • Requests scripts faxed from physician offices to assist patients
  • Documents communication of critical results when necessary
  • Operates computer systems and office equipment in a safe manner.
  • Interacts for solution of “routine problems” as they occur to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Superior performance in customer service and phone skills with ability to manage difficult patient satisfaction issues and provide service recovery.
  • Interacts with patients, family members, physicians, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Adheres to mandatory education requirements including among attendance, safety, infection control, professionalism, and dress code.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
