About The Position

At the core of the V Foundation’s mission is an unwavering commitment to saving lives and advancing cures for cancer. In support of this mission and the pursuit of Victory Over Cancer®, the V Foundation for Cancer Research is seeking a part-time, project-oriented Patient Navigator. This position is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Initially structured as a temporary, non-benefits-eligible role, the position will be evaluated after six months to assess patient navigation needs. There may be an opportunity to transition to a regular, full-time role. Hybrid work arrangement allowing for work at home, but also, attend in-person team meetings, annual Summit and other company specific events. The Patient Navigator will provide high-quality, compassionate guidance to individuals facing a new or complex cancer diagnosis. Requests for navigation support originate from V Foundation Board members, donors, volunteers, and staff, and often involve sensitive, time-critical situations. This role requires strong scientific and medical literacy, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and families experiencing significant stress. The Patient Navigator will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and serve as an integral member of the Research and Grants Administration team, collaborating closely with team members to support related responsibilities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or a similar related field; RN background or experience a plus.
  • Three to five years of experience in navigating patient care or advocating on behalf of patients with a healthcare center, agency, facility, etc.
  • Advanced understanding of cancer biology, oncology care, and clinical cancer research
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical trials and academic or comprehensive cancer center systems
  • Experience supporting patients or families during complex medical situations, particularly at or near the time of diagnosis
  • In-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the healthcare system.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and compassionately
  • High emotional intelligence, compassion, discretion, and professionalism when working with vulnerable individuals and senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, manage variable workloads, and exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Willingness to engage outside traditional business hours when patient needs require it
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience working in a non-profit organization is a plus.
