The Patient Flow Assistant performs designated direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care under the direct supervision of the Medical Doctor (MD), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the cancer clinics and infusion center caring for patients eighteen years of age or older with suspected or confirmed malignancies or hematologic disorders. Functions in a combination role performing a variety of duties within the unlicensed assistive personnel scope of practice that includes, but is not limited to patient care assistant and secretarial and scheduling duties. Follows policies, protocols, techniques and guidelines in all aspects of job duties. Meets qualifications and competencies as identified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Provides for emotional comfort and caring through verbal and nonverbal communication. Relates courteously, compassionately and tactfully with patients and families facing the unknown. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Demonstrates flexibility and willingly floats to other areas as assigned. Performs other duties as needed.
