About The Position

Responsible for managing hospital bed capacity and patient flow, ensuring safe, efficient and timely placement of patients into appropriate units. Coordinates between other hospitals and physicians to ensure proper placement of patient transferring into and out of SE Health. Administers the policies and operational procedures necessary for the coordination of expeditious, safe admission/transfer of patients. Job Description Essential Functions Identifies and effectively utilizes the appropriate resources to ensure bed assignments are appropriate for patient population and admit type status. Assumes technical responsibility for hospital transfers, admissions, and accommodations to include entering and reviewing data and dashboards in EPIC system Serves as a liaison between admitting, nursing staff, physicians, and transferring hospitals to ensure proper placement. Maintain Compliance on Physician Link calls following EMTALA protocol. Acts as a central liaison between ED staff, nursing, physicians, and environmental services to facilitate patient transfers and discharges Participate/lead daily multi-disciplinary “Bed Control” meetings involving front line leadership and nursing administration Streamlines patient throughput, reducing wait times in the emergency department and expediting transfers from other facilities Documents patient movements in the electronic medical record, maintains required documentation and ensures adherence to hospital, regulatory and legal standards. Documents appropriate data in the bed management system to reflect system wide activity. Communicates with unit managers, nursing leadership, administrator on call regarding high census, capacity constraints and complex placement issues Monitors hospital-wide census and implements surge capacity protocols to manage periods of high acuity or volume. Analyzes historical admission data and upcoming surgical schedules to anticipate bed shortages and proactively allocate resources. Serves as an arbiter in bed-related disputes between departments, prioritizing patient safety and clinical necessity over "first-come, first-served" placement. Regularly reviews Bed board and Capacity Management Dashboard to identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks. Collaborates with clinical leadership to create or update standardized placement criteria for specialty units (CCU, PCU, Telemetry, Ortho) to ensure level-of-care accuracy. Performs other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current LPN Licensure in the State of Alabama.
  • One (1) year of LPN experience.
  • Actively accepts, understands, and practices appropriate standards of nursing practice of the Licensed Practical Nurse as approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • Maintains an active, unencumbered Alabama State LPN license (or a valid multistate compact license with Alabama privileges).
  • Annual completion of competency requirements
  • Ability to work effectively across all healthcare disciplines, from front-line staff to executive leadership.
