Patient Financial Counselor Responsible for providing financial assistance services to patients and family members. Handles inquiries from patients regarding the eligibility for Medicaid. Assists applicants with required paperwork, eligibility requirements and counseling on Medicaid guidelines. Collects money owed from patients and third-party payers to ensure timely recovery of the outstanding accounts receivable. Principal Accountabilities: Obtains and documents patient demographic/financial information. Requests authorization or referrals from insurance companies for at-risk patients to receive care. Verifies insurance eligibility when applicable. Informs patient of payment options and financial assistance opportunities. Advocates for patients by negotiating payment arrangements. Prepares payment estimates based on treatment plans and insurance information such as deductibles, co-pay, etc. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Performs other related duties as assigned.
