About The Position

Key Functions Facilitates the collection of patient/guarantor payments. Meets with patient/guarantor to explain and answer questions regarding all aspects of the financial contract and reimbursement process. Make determinations on financial assistance applications based on current Federal Poverty Guidelines and established organizational policies. Work with both contracted and non-contracted insurance companies to obtain all applicable verification of benefits and out-of-pocket expenses. Maintain all patients’ financial accounts to keep them in good standing, including processing all patient/guarantor payments. Set up, maintain and edit payment arrangements on patient accounts, as necessary. Monitor and resolve delinquent accounts through the organization’s collections process. Communicates with Admissions staff, clinical staff, patient advocacy, and patient accounting regarding scheduling, patient treatment and financial counseling needs. Maintains knowledge of information and functionality. Observes all HIPAA required practices including, but not limited to, maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality for all patient and clinic information. Maintains knowledge of computer system functions as it pertains to Patient Accounts. Use data and information to assist in decision making. Make recommendations to improve the processing of claims, collections of accounts and statements to clients. Assist with other accounting projects as assigned and complete other duties as requested. Accepts additional assignments willingly. Demonstrates an ability to respond to changing workloads. Prepare in a timely and accurate manner all other tasks as assigned. Always provides excellent customer service by effectively meeting both external and internal customer needs. Understands the Menninger Clinic patient population and tailors’ approach to maintain superior customer relations. Build quality relationships both within the department and with other departments to maximize efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years financial counseling experience in a hospital, or equivalent environment, which includes working with various insurance plans, payer networks, payment plans, collections, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or Associate’s degree
  • Billing certificate or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Cerner EMR is a plus.
