About The Position

Description Position Summary: Performs clerical duties to ensure patients have access to the financial resources available to them. Responsible for preauthorization/precertification of ancillary testing and chemotherapy medications. The Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for patient correspondence, insurance forms and updates, free drug and co pay assistance programs available to patients and addressing patients’ financial concerns in collaboration with the business office, insurance companies, non‐profit organizations, and pharmaceutical companies.

Requirements

• Graduate of an associate’s program in medical office assisting or high school diploma.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in an office setting.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with ICD‐10 coding and insurance knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides financial assistance to patients with concerns regarding co pay assistance, insurance, or financial concerns.
• Works as liaison with insurance companies, business office, and pharmaceutical companies to provide financial assistance to patients
• Meets with patients who are uninsured or underinsured to proactively provide financial resources
• Research what, if any, financial assistance is available to those patients
• Helps patients apply to programs they qualify for
• Coordinates specialty pharmacy patients and fills out required paperwork needed for initial supply
• Ensures prescrition is routed to appropriate pharmacy that will result in lower cost to patient
• Completes prior authorizations on medication and procedures that require it
• Monitors for insurance denials for chemotherapy agents; coordinates appeal process for same and assists patients to find alternate funding if unable to attain approval for a required medication or test.
