Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in patient financial services, billing, insurance verification, or financial counseling strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of medical billing, insurance processes, and reimbursement
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear, patient-friendly manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation abilities
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Proficiency with EHR and practice management systems

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • Medical billing/coding certification such as CPC or COC (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Meet with patients to clearly explain medical bills, charges, and financial responsibilities
  • Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs
  • Develop and manage Patient Responsibility Payment (PRP) plans
  • Provide guidance to help patients make informed financial decisions regarding their care
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services
  • Determine patient financial responsibility including co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles
  • Communicate financial expectations clearly before or at time of service
  • Collect payments at time of service or prior to procedures
  • Follow up on outstanding balances in a timely and professional manner
  • Resolve billing discrepancies in collaboration with patients and internal teams
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for procedures and self-pay patients
  • Coordinate with external providers (e.g., surgical facilities, anesthesia) for comprehensive estimates
  • Assist patients in planning for upcoming healthcare expenses
  • Deliver exceptional, respectful service when discussing sensitive financial matters
  • Respond to billing and payment inquiries with clarity and professionalism
  • Maintain accurate and compliant financial records in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies
  • Document all financial interactions appropriately
