The Patient Companion, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), serves as a vital member of the healthcare team by providing continuous, non-clinical support to ensure the safety, comfort, and emotional well-being of assigned patients. This role is especially critical for patients who require close observation due to cognitive impairment, behavioral health concerns, fall risk, or other safety-related needs. The Patient Companion is responsible for maintaining a constant presence at the patient's bedside or designated area, observing and documenting patient behavior, and promptly reporting any changes in condition, safety risks, or unusual behavior to the nursing staff. The role includes engaging patients in conversation, offering reassurance, and assisting with non-clinical tasks such as helping with meals, providing comfort items, and supporting mobility under supervision.
