UPMC Somerset is hiring Full-time, Part-time, and Casual Patient Care Technicians (PCT) to support the Emergency Department. The shifts of these positions vary depending on employment status. All positions will work rotating weekends and holidays. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the PCT Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education. As a Patient Care Technician, you'll: Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, visitors, and team members to help create a welcoming environment. Help maintain a safe and clean space by organizing patient rooms, cleaning equipment, and keeping hallways free of clutter. Support patients with everyday tasks such as bathing, eating, toileting, walking, and getting to different areas of the hospital. Take basic patient measurements—like vital signs, weights, and blood sugar checks—and assist with simple monitoring or specimen collection tasks. Respond to call lights and phones, deliver meals and water, help transport patients, and distribute mail or small items as needed. Keep supplies stocked and ready by restocking rooms, organizing equipment, and assisting with basic messenger or stocking duties. Contribute to a positive team atmosphere by accepting feedback, staying open to learning, and stepping in to help coworkers when needed. Ask questions or request help when unsure, and take opportunities to learn new skills and grow in the role. Provide one‑on‑one support or supervision to patients who need extra attention to stay safe. Document patient information accurately and follow all hospital safety practices, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must also have one of following:
  • 1 Year of general healthcare experience
  • 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience,
  • enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
  • completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
  • Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
  • Successful completion of eRecord training.
  • CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
