The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit-based team who supports the ongoing delivery of care to assigned patients in the Coronary Care Unit (H4). This unit has a 24-bed capacity and cares for a variety of patients, including those who have had trauma-related accidents, blunt or penetrating trauma, bone and joint injuries, spinal trauma, or traumatic brain injuries. It also cares for surgical patients who have had solid organ transplants (liver and kidney), abdominal surgeries, and a variety of other surgical interventions that may require additional monitoring in an ICU. Additionally, the unit provides care for cardiovascular patients who have had coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, thoracotomy, carotid endarterectomy, or a variety of vascular-related interventions. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment, or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies and works within the Department of Nursing standards, adhering to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures, standards, and guest care guidelines.
