The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care to assigned patients in the Coronary Care Unit (H4). This unit has a 24 bed capacity and cares for a variety of patients. Care for the trauma patient includes those who have had trauma related accidents, blunt or penetrating trauma, bone and joint injuries, spinal trauma, or traumatic brain injuries. Care for surgical patients includes those who have had solid organ transplants (liver and kidney), abdominal surgeries, and a variety of other surgical interventions that may require additional monitoring in an ICU. Care for the cardiovascular patients includes those who have had coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, thoracotomy, carotid endarterectomy, or a variety of vascular related interventions. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies and works within the Department of Nursing standards, adhering to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.
