High School CTE - Patient Care Technician - West Region
About The Position
This posting is for High School Students enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Applicants should only apply if they are attending an Application Session with an IU Health representative. The position is available across all West Region locations, including Arnett, Frankfort, Tipton, and White Memorial Hospitals. The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) operates under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) as a non-licensed team member. In this role, the PCA is responsible for providing care to designated patients and offering support to the patient care team. Key duties encompass assisting with activities of daily living, providing mobility assistance, conducting continuous observation (including suicide prevention), and ensuring that the patient's environment remains clean and orderly.
Requirements
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program
- Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served
- Up to date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
- Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills
- Constant mental awareness and the ability to withstand a high level of tension and stress
- Ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions and variable noise levels
- Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems encountered
- Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within a limited time for completion
- Knowledge of procedures, equipment, software and standards related to patient care activities that non-licensed role performs (for example PCA/PCR/PCI)
- Knowledge of principles of infection control
- Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitious movements
- Ability to read and perform basic math
- Ability to organize tasks and attend to details
- Knowledge of principles of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection of patients, self, and others
