About The Position

Position Summary As a Patient Care Technician, you will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care, assist with clinical procedures, and support unit operations. This role includes hands-on patient care, technical responsibilities such as phlebotomy and EKGs, and effective collaboration with the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of patient care experience in any healthcare setting (e.g., long-term care, specialty, or acute care).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three or more years of patient care experience, and one year as a Level II PCT at Baystate Health.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four or more years of experience in an acute or specialty care setting, and one year as a Level III PCT at Baystate Health.
  • Proficient in English (reading and writing).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in medium- to high-stress environments.
  • Commitment to teamwork, safety, and patient-centered care.
  • GED or HiSET
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart AssociationAmerican Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Patient Care Technician training or CNA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate, compassionate care to patients.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and other physiological indicators.
  • Assist patients with hygiene, mobility, and elimination needs.
  • Collect and label specimens; ensure timely delivery to appropriate departments.
  • Perform Point of Care (POC) testing and assist with treatments and procedures.
  • Support physicians and nurses during exams and simple procedures.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and emergency readiness protocols.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to support clinical and non-clinical needs.
  • Maintain equipment and document care activities accurately.
