About The Position

The Patient Care Technician functions within patient areas as assigned. This individual performs phlebotomy, patient transportation, direct para-professional nursing care to Nursing Units and Emergency Department patients, as well as various registration and clerical duties. This individual is responsible and accountable to an assigned group of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients. The CSO PCT can also be responsible to assist the Admissions RN. Halifax Health offers the area’s only Level II Trauma Center, Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC), Center for Transplant Services, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Child and Adolescent Behavioral Services, complete Neurosurgical Services, OB Emergency Department and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that cares for babies born earlier than 28 weeks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Current certification in BLS within 7 days of hire
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Basic computer skills or ability to learn and use hospital computer
  • Effective communication skills with unit staff and other departments
  • Must complete orientation requirements: general hospital orientation and unit-specific orientation

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
