About The Position

A clinically competent Patient Care Technician who works under the supervision of the RN in delivering skilled and effective perioperative care and all related functions. Provides direct and indirect patient care in the perioperative care setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity. Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Participates in the departments continuous quality improvement activities. Under general supervision, performs nursing work related to the care and treatment of the patients in the Preoperative and PACU areas of the Center.

Requirements

  • Current and valid licensure as a CMA, CNA, or as applicable.
  • BCLS Certification. (Renewed every two years.)
  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical/surgical setting

Responsibilities

  • Assures availability of supplies required for the care of the patient.
  • Participates in Preop and PACU set up, turnover, cleaning, and restocking.
  • Maintains sterile technique in opening of surgical supplies and instrumentation.
  • Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes medical supplies and equipment.
  • Provides for aseptic technique throughout a procedure in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Observes, recognizes, and anticipates common complications, and assists with emergency care as needed.
  • Reports unusual conditions to the RN.
  • Possesses general knowledge of equipment and supplies.
  • Assures availability of instrumentation and supplies required for the procedure prior to the case.
  • Understands and practices principles of sterilization, universal precautions, and hazardous materials management to process instruments, equipment, and supplies through the stages of decontamination.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard instrumentation and equipment, their functions and uses.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently under established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Stocks supplies and blanket warmer.
  • Assists with turnovers.
  • Assist with patient discharge.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
