About The Position

Description Per Diem, Days Position Summary A Patient Care Technician is responsible and accountable for assisting the RN or LPN in the provision of patient care and tending to the personal care needs of the patient as directed by the RN or LPN, as well as functioning as a unit secretary. Unit Secretary duties include, but are not limited to, the transcription and data entry of physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patients' data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivery and pick up of specimens and supplies, as well as ordering and restocking of unit supplies. Responsibilities 1. Reports for scheduled shift on time and prepared to assume responsibilities. Reports to work in proper uniform or attire. Leaves for meal break on time and returns on time. Varies work schedule to meet the needs of the department. Ensures all overtime had been approved by the department head prior to working. Schedules all time off with supervisor’s approval. Strictly adheres to hospital attendance/tardiness policies 100% of the time. Wears I.D. badge in visible location at all times on hospital property. 2. Attends and participates in meetings and is responsible for information communicated at meetings. Attends all hospital mandatory in-services on a timely basis as scheduled. Participates as an active team member at staff meetings. Reads communications and acts upon in a positive and informative manner. 3. Adheres to Corporate, Regional, hospital and departmental policy and procedure 100% of the time. Reads and comprehends the company's Standards of Conduct. During the past evaluation period, has demonstrated compliance with the company's Ethics program. Has participated in one hour of Standards of Conduct training within the last 12 months. Understands that compliance with Corporate Integrity Program is a condition of employment and violation of any principals or practices if the program will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient/employee/facility/corporate information 100% of the time. Accepts change as an opportunity for growth, learning and development; adapts to changing procedures and goals in a cooperative and positive manner. 4. Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors and employees in a professional and courteous manner. Extends special attention and sensitivity to all patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees. Assists in maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation with other departments and allied professionals. Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts. Demonstrates the ability to participate in and/or implement team decisions. Actively participates in and encourages actions that promote good public relations with patients’ families, visitors and the community. Works together in a spirit of teamwork. 5. Follows Infection Control procedures at all times. Clinical Personnel Strictly adheres to Standard Precautions when handling blood or body fluids. Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and immediately if contaminated with blood or other body fluids and before and after patient contact. Dispose of sharps in puncture resistant needle boxes. Utilizes appropriate barrier precautions. Wear gloves, goggles, and surgical masks for all invasive procedures. Adheres to isolation procedures and techniques at all times as applicable. 6. Adheres to the Safety Policies and Procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, Hazardous Material procedures, and Safety Codes. 7. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personnel and hospital property. 8. Adheres to the following environmental care standards. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Safety Policies and Procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, Hazardous Material procedures, and Safety Codes. 9. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations. 10. Performs and fulfills all HICS (hospital incident command system) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency and/or disaster. Responsible for knowing the Hospital’s emergency codes, including the purpose and appropriate action for each, and adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures for each emergency code. 11. Complies with all policies and procedures that pertain to HIPAA including the minimum necessary requirements for this job position. As a part of the requirements for this position, the employee has access to the entire medical record for the purpose of providing clinical support to the direct and indirect nursing care givers that provide care to the patients in the nursing unit. Limits the protected health information (PHI) disclosed or requested to the amount reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of the request. The disclosures or requests that occur on a routine basis include: patient demographics, condition, notification of actual/potential victim of abuse or neglect, description of injuries for the purpose of a crime investigation, actual/potential for organ donation, and patient disposition updates. Makes disclosures for the purpose of appropriate patient care. Criteria established to limit the PHI disclosures/requests to that which is reasonably necessary includes: communicating only the PHI that is required by law, upon request, and for correct/intended purpose of providing patient care and notification to local/state authorities and or regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • EXPERIENCE: Preferred: Previous Patient Care Technician experience
  • REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) or E.M.T. and documented evidence of successful completion of an accredited nursing school program.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – 90 days from hired date
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Required: None
