The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, providing direct and indirect care for comfort, personal hygiene, and safety, and ensuring care aligns with VCUHS Nursing and Hospital policy and procedure. The technician contributes to the patient experience by accurately identifying the patient, observing safety goals, and reporting patient responses or incidents to the healthcare team. Responsibilities also include obtaining and recording initial and ongoing patient information, including admissions data, vital signs, and specimens. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills for equitable care appropriate to the age of patients served, ranging from neonates to geriatrics.
