About The Position

Hartford HealthCare, a comprehensive healthcare network with over 40,000 colleagues, operates Windham Hospital, which has been providing high-tech, compassionate care for over 75 years to Northeastern Connecticut. The Shea unit at Windham Hospital is a specialized, multi-level, inpatient unit, featuring a 30-bed medical-surgical and telemetry unit, with additional beds for step-down/PCU and orthopedic patients. The team on the Shea unit is a collaborative, multidisciplinary care team dedicated to serving the community. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) on this unit works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing delegated functions while considering the age-specific needs of patients. The PCT is responsible for assisting in meeting the healthcare, safety, and comfort needs of patients, adhering to existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. This role is a contributing member of the healthcare team, focused on helping patients achieve established care outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Completion of certified nursing training program; or experience as home health aide; or enrolled in nursing program; or experience in or enrolled in a patient facing (clinical) vocation/field
  • BLS certification required or completion within the first three months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Experience using medical terminology preferred.
  • CNA Certified within 6 months or a nursing student with one year of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Model quality patient/customer service by demonstrating a willingness to serve all customers at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of patient needs while utilizing tact, discretion, and compassion in responding to those needs.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and record in the medical record.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, blood glucose, EKGs, and patient intake/output while reporting any abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse.
