Akron General’s 4200 Unit is a Complex Cardiovascular Unit that serves a diverse population, with patients recovering from open-heart surgeries, amputations, lung operations, heart attacks and other critical medical concerns. As PCNA, you play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. You will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support and teamwork. Each day, you have numerous opportunities to make a difference in your community. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 11:30PM, with an every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • One year of recent acute care experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
  • Prepare patients for meals, assists in feeding patients if necessary and distribute water and other nourishments according to patient needs in compliance with physician orders.
  • Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area in timely manner.
