About The Position

The 21-bed Cardiovascular Intervention Care Unit (CVICU) at Akron General supports a diverse population, from newborns to older adults. This dedicated team of caregivers provides various treatments and procedures for numerous cardiovascular-related conditions and diagnoses. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant on the team, you play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. You will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support and teamwork. Each day, you have numerous opportunities to make a difference in your community. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • One year of recent acute care experience
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, ice and heat pack application, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, oxygen equipment set up, Buck's traction and the removal of urinary Foley Catheters.
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
  • Collect, properly label and transports specimens to proper area.
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
