Job Summary: The Patient Care Counselor's responsibilities include, but not limited to, educating patients on surgical procedures; create and explain to patient surgery estimates; scheduling surgery and post-operative/Co-management appointments; and coordination with surgery center.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material, methods, instruments, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to maintain high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines and requirements of the organization.
  • Ability to work well with others and alone with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated professional mannerism and attire.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and educate patients on surgery procedures.
  • High school diploma or general education equivalent.
  • Experience in surgery center or related area with knowledge of surgical protocol and practices.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of experience in an ophthalmic practice setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surgery estimates based on self-pay status or insurance benefits.
  • Educate patient on surgery procedures and estimate of out of pocket cost.
  • Schedule surgery and post-op appointments.
  • Obtain surgery consents signed by patient.
  • Obtain medical clearance based on medical necessity.
  • Coordinate transportation with surgery center, if needed.
  • Respond to patient inquiries as evidence by tasks, voicemails, or other forms of communication.
  • Provide surgery center with applicable documentation including, but not limited to, surgery orders, patient demographics, and medical clearance.
  • Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, Compliance Program, and Code of Conduct.
