The Patient Care Assistant (PCA), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being, including concepts of relationship-based care. Training is provided to prepare colleagues for success. The Inpatient Rehab units at Chelsea Hospital care for patients requiring comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation after traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular accidents, amputations, debility, poly trauma or spinal cord injuries. Inpatient Rehab is a collaborative program between Chelsea Hospital and University of Michigan Health, staffed by a team of award-winning U-M Health rehab physicians and Chelsea Hospital nurses, therapists, and specialists. The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit has recently expanded to a 40-bed unit and is now accepting higher acuity patients.
