About The Position

This is an exceptional opportunity for a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support the vision of Trinity Health and serve as a compassionate and transforming healing presence in the community. The PCA, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for providing direct patient care, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They play a role in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being, incorporating concepts of relationship-based care. Training is provided to ensure colleagues are prepared for success. The Atrium East unit at the Chelsea hospital is a 24-bed Medical-Surgical unit that cares for complex, high-acuity medical and surgical patients. Patient diagnoses can vary, including medical conditions like COPD, Sepsis, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and CHF, or surgical cases such as bariatric, mastectomy, colorectal surgeries, and hernias. The typical length of stay for patients on this unit is 3-5 days.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance, lifting greater than 35 pounds using mechanical assistance

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care
  • Assist patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection
  • Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements
