About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant-Child Life provides age-specific (neonate, infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult) and developmentally appropriate therapeutic patient activities, such as games and toys, both in the activity room and at the bedside. This role involves creating and fostering a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment for hospitalized children in the activity room. The assistant performs duties within their scope of practice, adhering to established policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines, and meets all identified qualifications and competencies. They are expected to utilize strong interpersonal skills to ensure excellent customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism, and to contribute to a cooperative and caring work environment among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum twelve (12) college units in child/human development
  • Minimum one-year experience in child development or education center
  • Able to read
  • Able to write legibly
  • Able to speak in English with professional quality
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following policies
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
  • Able to teach and collaborate
  • Able to accept direction
  • Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone
  • Able to think critically
  • Able to perform basic math functions
  • Able to manage multiple assignments effectively
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to recall information with accuracy
  • Able to pay close attention to detail
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association
