About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant-Child Life provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate therapeutic patient activities, such as games and toys, in the activity room and at the bedside. This role involves creating and fostering a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment for hospitalized children. The assistant performs duties within their scope of practice, adhering to policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines, and meets department-specific qualifications and competencies. They are expected to utilize interpersonal skills to ensure excellent customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism, while contributing to a cooperative and culturally diverse work environment. Other duties may be performed as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum twelve (12) college units in child/human development
  • Minimum one-year experience in child development or education center
  • Able to read
  • Able to write legibly
  • Able to speak in English with professional quality
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following policies
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
  • Able to teach and collaborate
  • Able to accept direction
  • Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone
  • Able to think critically
  • Able to perform basic math functions

  • Able to pay close attention to detail
  • Able to work with minimal supervision

  • Able to identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient needs
  • Able to see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association
