General Summary of Position The Patient Advocate seeks to personalize and strengthen the relationship between the hospital and the patients their families and visitors and to facilitate a problem solving system of communications. Works to enhance the image of the hospital by acting in a public relations capacity. Also acts as an ombudsman on behalf of the patients and the hospital. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Provides visitors with information and directions and assists with enforcement of visitor control policy.Interfaces with patients and families regarding room changes.Assists patients in contacting family members.Makes rounds and visits all inpatients in designated areas daily.Makes rounds to outpatient waiting areas and greets patients and develops innovative ways of providing information to patients.Communicates with patients and families who are in the Emergency Department.Assists with transportation arrangements for patient discharge including answering telephone at nurse's station as needed and assisting with transportation arrangements for patient discharge.Documents complaints/compliments and forwards to unit manager and enters into variance system if indicated.
