About The Position

The Patient Accounts is the primary contact with patients regarding their accounts with the practice. This includes managing patient payments, payment plans and self-pay encounters. The Patient Accounts representative is also the primary liaison with the Allergy Department for immunotherapy billing policy compliance with respect to vials as well as payments for self pay allergy therapy. The patient accounts representative will also be a resource for the hearing aid program by handling phone calls and payments related to these charges. The patient accounts representative is also responsible for balancing the patient monies accepted by the front desk daily. This position is a hybrid position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous medical billing experience and familiarity with medical terminology
  • Consistent professional conduct, meticulous attention to detail, and critical thinking skills and a positive attitude are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as well as interpersonal skills with patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies
  • Proficient computer skills including ability to master the EHR and practice management software; Experience with NextGen preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily balancing of cash and checks from patient encounters and electronically depositing these into the bank.
  • Primary person to take SLIT (self-pay) payments for the Allergy Department.
  • Payment posting for patient payments received through the mail.
  • Generate account statements for patients; answer patient questions regarding their account.
  • Create payment plans for patients based on practice criteria.
  • Manage patient account credits and refunds.
  • Contact patients through email, written correspondence, and phone to inform them of overdue balances.
  • Posting unapplied payments to the patient charges.
  • Utilizing reports to ensure the correct insurance is on the claim prior to processing.
