GENERAL SUMMARY: The Patient Access Supervisor possesses exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills and ensures the delivery of compassionate, personalized service to the patients and guests of Klickitat Valley Health. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Access Department in both the critical access hospital and rural health clinic settings. The Supervisor may provide administrative support to these departments as well. The Supervisor ensures the timely and accurate registration of patients, personnel management, and staffing; monitors effective processes and reporting of department accuracy; troubleshoots issues and develops resolutions; and resolves patient complaints. May oversee prior authorizations and referrals for the department. The Supervisor fosters a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional development. The Supervisor demonstrates excellence in customer service and professionalism during interactions with patients, families, and other customers and works collaboratively with departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required
  • A Certified Healthcare Access Supervisor (CHAM) is required within one year
  • Minimum of two years experience working in Patient Access/Registration role
  • Minimum one year experience working in a progressively responsible and/or supervisory role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient access principles and best practices, medical records release processes, HIPAA regulations, and EMTALA rules
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
  • Effective leadership skills include leading, mentoring, and motivating a team while building a culture of accountability and trust.
  • Revenue Cycle Management - Understanding of billing, coding, and reimbursement procedures.
  • Ability to positively and effectively communicate with internal (patients, physicians, and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors).
  • Promote/develop/deliver excellent customer service to internal (patients, physicians, and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors).
  • Adaptability is essential to manage the needs of a department with unpredictable volume and limited staff.
  • Maintain a calm and composed manner in emergency/stressful situations, taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy; risk of error could result in significant harm or loss.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments.
  • Experience using everyday computer / electronic tools (e.g., email, phone systems, data retrieval, voicemail, copier, fax, and internet/intranet) and utilizing the District’s Electronic Medical Records system effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, extracting data and converting it into report format.
  • Typing speed of 40+ wpm.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree preferred
  • PAS Supervisor or Office Management experience in a Critical Access Hospital setting is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the patient access team, including training staff, managing staff schedules, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective management of patient admissions, registration, insurance verification, and financial counseling
  • Conduct regular audits of patient access processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with hospital and rural health clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
