Geisinger’s Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries every day, maintaining empathy, professionalism, and providing a positive patient experience. This role provides front-line support to the department, coordinating and performing office activities efficiently. Key responsibilities include greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check-out process, and scheduling future appointments. PARs are responsible for accurately verifying patient demographics, interpreting insurance responses, and properly assigning primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance. They ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtain legal and financial signatures, and communicate financial obligations, collecting fees at the time of service. The role also involves completing regulatory forms, scheduling follow-up appointments, processing multi-channel messages related to appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints, and performing cash posting. Patient Access Representatives must abide by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, maintain confidentiality, work independently on work queues for timely account resolution, and accurately perform medical record maintenance and releases. They also assist with referrals and pre-certifications and utilize patient recall and reschedule lists.
