About The Position

The Transplant Financial Coordinator mitigates financial risk to UF Health by completing accurate financial clearance reviews and performing comprehensive analyses of patient- and payer-specific benefits and liabilities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Inpatient Financial Representative at a Transplant Facility, OR
  • 3 years of experience as a Financial Representative in a hospital facility.
  • Working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology is required.
  • Proven ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Ability to make timely and accurate judgment decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, including exceptional verbal, written, and analytical abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Proficiency with standard software applications and the ability to work with multiple computer systems.
  • Must demonstrate adaptability, tact, and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must understand the importance of a “first impression” role and maintain appropriate professional dress, attitude, and demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree or related coursework preferred.
  • CPAT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Clearance & Risk Mitigation
  • Conducts thorough financial clearance reviews.
  • Analyzes patient and payer benefits to determine patient liability and minimize financial risk to the organization.
  • Management of Transplant Accounts
  • Manages high-dollar transplant patient accounts, including pre- and post-transplant episodes of care for both hospital and physician groups.
  • Interdisciplinary Team Participation
  • Represents the Financial Services Division as an active member of transplant teams.
  • Provides financial perspectives necessary for treatment decisions.
  • Communicates directly with physicians, clinic support staff, and the Medical Review Board.
  • Makes recommendations based on financial assessments.
  • Payer Negotiations & Authorization Management
  • Negotiates payment approvals with third-party payers by analyzing individual plan benefits.
  • Provides clinical information to medical and transplant case managers to secure pre-approvals for all episodes of treatment, including: Hospital-to-hospital transfers
  • Transplant evaluations
  • High-tech radiology
  • UNOS listing
  • Transplant surgery
  • Post-transplant follow-up care
  • Coordinates peer-to-peer reviews as needed.
  • Patient Financial Counseling & Assistance
  • Determines patient ability to pay and negotiates deposits or payment plans.
  • Calculates patient financial responsibility and provides cost estimates.
  • Explores and coordinates alternative funding sources, including community fundraising and government programs.
  • Conducts in-depth, face-to-face financial interviews to develop strategies for lifelong financial security.
  • Regulatory & Program Support
  • Reviews government programs and legislation affecting transplantation reimbursement; reports on impacts to the team.
  • Supports maximum reimbursement efforts for both hospital and physician groups.
  • Serves as a financial liaison between transplant clinics and patients/families throughout the transplant process.
  • Collaboration & Meetings
  • Participates in regulatory and operational meetings with the Financial Supervisor/Manager, Transplant Director, Transplant Managers, Managed Care, and other transplant department members.
