About the Job General Summary of Position Greets, assists, and directs visitors, physicians, patients, and other hospital clients. Transcribes histopathology reports, answers telephone calls, and takes messages for management and staff. Handles incoming mail. Maintains calendars and schedules meetings, reports, and other time-dependent activities for the Medical Chief of the Department of Pathology, the Medical Director of Laboratories, and the Director of Laboratory Services. Performs the duties of the Pathology Secretary when necessary. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives while adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with all governmental and accreditation regulations. Transcribes pathology reports accurately and in a timely manner. Answers all phone and written inquiries related to pathology reports and specimens. Maintains logs for referred specimens and ensures reports are received and forwarded to physicians as required or requested. Researches and collects data and prepares reports for pathology Quality Improvement studies. Obtains, prioritizes, and distributes mail and correspondence daily. Files pathology slides as required. Maintains secure files, logs, and specimens. Provides secretarial support to the laboratory management team, including the Administrative Director, Medical Director, LIS Manager, Section Chiefs, and/or Supervisors.
