The Pathology Reporting Specialist performs a variety of tasks to support pathologists and other allied healthcare providers, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all documents through report review, medical editing, tests ordered, and patient case reports. This role allows pathologists to focus on patient care. Key tasks include transcribing pathology reports, quality, research, and administrative documents. The specialist coordinates patient case correspondence and materials, orders tests and stains, reports test results, and ensures billing and coding compliance. Additional responsibilities include answering telephones, participating in process improvement (including data collection), coordinating case conference materials, and maintaining the consultant calendar. Accessioning of case materials may also be required. The specialist must adhere to and review work unit standard operating procedures. This role also involves serving as a resource and mentor, training and educating new and existing team members, and troubleshooting problems. The individual is expected to demonstrate initiative, proficiency, and good judgment to optimize the time of consultants and other healthcare providers. The position requires being highly organized, efficient, multifunctional, and capable of working independently and as part of a team, with excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in medical terminology, and customer service.
