About The Position

The Phlebotomist will greet the public, perform designated clerical duties, obtain patient specimens in accordance with standards and procedures as set forth by local, state, and federal agencies and this institution for the purpose of performing diagnostic tests in order to aid the physician in making decisions regarding diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The Phlebotomist reports directly to the Section Supervisor, Laboratory Director, and/or Medical Director.

Nice To Haves

  • PBT(ASCP) is encouraged.
  • Previous phlebotomy or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy with appropriate skill and technique, across the continuum of age groups.
  • Maintains knowledge skills base.
  • Performs waived testing accordingly as trainee.
  • Participates in continuing education activity by obtaining seven CEUs annually as defined by the Pathology Department.
  • Performs specimen data entry and other LIS functions as instructed as successfully.
  • Monitors departmental information resources for changes/announcements (e.g. e-mail, bulletin board, mailbox, handouts, etc)
  • Review all policies and procedures initially and at the time of revisions or when new procedures are offered and applicable to their job responsibilities.
  • Will recommend improvements as warranted.
  • Will also stay current with communication requirements from various sources (e.g., lab leadership, organizational communications, etc.).
  • Monitors, documents and helps resolve QA issues.
  • Identifies problems that can adversely affect patient care and informs supervisor/director when applicable.
  • Will use applicable safety devices and/or PPE’s when handling and testing biohazardous materials.
  • Exhibits a positive first impression to all customers by following institutional service care standards.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
