About The Position

Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30pm ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Engage in hands-on learning through scheduled departmental training sessions and shadowing opportunities. Collaborate with mentors and program administrators to select and develop a capstone project. Document progress and reflections through regular journaling, integrating NACE career readiness competencies and personal growth insights. Attend scheduled career pathway speaker sessions, mentor check-ins, and professional development modules (e.g., HNL U, NACE activities).. Accurately completes work according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in department. Receives, and triages incoming specimens and evaluates specimen integrity. Performs laboratory information systems functions for test receipt, requisition and labeling; may perform and record required checks of laboratory equipment and test systems and notifies mentor or departmental supervisor of any issues. Cleans laboratory equipment, glassware and work surfaces as well as prepares laboratory reagents and other testing supplies with accuracy and with documentation of performed QC checks. Problems are reported to the mentor or department supervisor in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school juniors, seniors, or recent graduates must be enrolled in a STEAM/STEM career program.
  • Ability to read and understand basic technical and professional materials.
  • Can communicate clearly in writing and verbally with team members, supervisors, and customers.
  • Demonstrates a professional phone manner and can respond appropriately to routine questions and requests.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to work independently; demonstrate initiative and analytical ability; and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to troubleshoot common technical issues such as password resets and software navigation.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to Laboratory Information Systems and other relevant technologies as needed.
