About The Position

St. Juan Diego Catholic Church is looking for a full-time Pastoral Associate. We are looking for someone who works as an integral member of the parish staff, sharing in the responsibility of the needs assessment, decision-making, planning and implementation of parish ministries and operations. The Pastoral Associate is more of a generalist than a specialist, working at the direction of the pastor in responding to the spiritual, pastoral, educational, and administrative needs of the parish. Relates to the local, Area Vicariate and Archdiocesan structures.

Requirements

  • Proven ability in organizational and communications skills and an understanding of faith development.
  • Must be able to pray with anyone, anytime.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to meet program requirements.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a pastoral team.
  • Must be flexible, creative and responsible.
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Valid driver license required.
  • Must be an active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in religious education or theology. And 5 years of experience in parish work or a related field.
  • Must have a pervasive and persistent prayer life.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully catechize adults and children.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of the Catholic faith and the ability to speak authoritatively regarding church practices, procedures and teachings.

Responsibilities

  • Administers designated parish programs - volunteer coordination, evangelization and outreach.
  • Coordinates the parish's evangelization outreach efforts.
  • Contributes to the faith formation and development of ministers and parishioners.
  • Collaborates with other parish ministers to fulfill the religious education needs of parishioners.
  • Provides spiritual support and guidance to individuals and families.
  • Provides spiritual support within the parish for individuals and groups through ministry programs, pastoral counseling, etc.
  • Assists and shares in ministering to persons in crisis, e.g., the sick, grieving, divorced and separated, widows and widowers, as well as emergency requests for assistance.
  • Works with volunteers in establishing and attaining parish ministry goals.
  • Serves as a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team and Pastoral Council for the parish.
  • Assists the Pastor in welcoming and integrating persons into the parish community.
  • Contributes to the initial formation and ongoing development of various ministers and parish groups.
  • Maintains a strict level of confidentiality about Church, parish business and parishioners
  • Participates in the pastoral care of the sick in homes and/or hospitals.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
