About The Position

The Parts Back Counter Specialist is a dual-impact role responsible for driving shop efficiency and maintaining high levels of customer service. This position manages the full lifecycle of parts—from technical identification and inventory management to staging and field delivery. You will serve as the backbone of the service department while ensuring the parts warehouse remains organized, accurate, and safety compliant.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year in a parts counter role, ideally within a heavy equipment or automotive.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of mechanical components and heavy-duty systems.
  • System Proficiency: Proven ability to navigate complex parts catalogs and digital inventory management systems, preferably CDK.
  • Equipment & Licensing: Must be proficient in forklift operation and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for customer travel.
  • Communication: Ability to pivot between internal technician support and external customer-facing sales.
  • Physical Requirements & Environment
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy components (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of environments, including the parts counter, the service shop, and off-site customer locations.
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally to support territory growth and client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Shop & Customer Consultation
  • Technical Support: Provide expert parts identification for the service department and walk-in customers; handle high-volume phone inquiries and counter sales with technical precision.
  • Order Lifecycle Management: Oversee the entire flow of parts, including receiving, picking, packaging, and shipping to ensure zero-delay fulfillment.
  • Documentation: Accurately record all sales, core returns, and delivery information within the inventory management system to ensure data integrity.
  • Inventory & Warehouse Operations
  • Staging & Coordination: Receive and stage parts for upcoming installations; collaborate with the service team to ensure all components are ready before work begins.
  • Stock Integrity: Maintain warehouse organization through regular stocking, general housekeeping, and participation in rigorous physical inventory counts.
  • Material Handling: Safely operate a forklift to load/unload pallets and organize heavy equipment components within the yard or warehouse.
  • Field Support & Compliance
  • Field Delivery: Travel to customer sites or prospective client locations for parts delivery and relationship building as needed.
  • Safety & Standards: Maintain strict adherence to all workplace safety regulations, including safe vehicle operation and traffic law compliance during travel.
  • Adaptive Support: Execute additional operational tasks as directed by management to meet evolving dealership objectives.
