About The Position

GENERAL PURPOSE Under guidance and direction of the Senior Center Coordinator in accordance with the roles and responsibilities set by Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and the Division of Aging, performs a variety of responsibilities to support the Belton Senior Center Coordinator. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the individual in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned. Performs a variety of support functions including checking patrons in when they arrive; assists with programs for patrons, such as social recreation activities, arts and crafts, and educational programs. Train with the Coordinator to fulfill Senior Center duties in the absence of the Coordinator; act as the Coordinator in the absence of the Coordinator. Prepare kitchen and dining room for arrival of patrons; handles food in accordance with safe practices including food temperature taking and food serving. Inspect weekly supply inventory and storage for quality, quantity, and accuracy; ensure all supplies are properly stored. Cleaning/washing dishes/sweeping and mopping/trash collection/bathroom cleaning. Use a city vehicle to transport seniors to and from the Senior Center, as assigned. Assist the Coordinator with recruiting and maintaining Senior Center participation; actively market the Senior Center using social media and other resources, as assigned. Interact with patrons and answer questions in a courteous, patient, and respectful manner. Assist with closing procedures each day. Assist the Coordinator with researching, planning, and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly Senior Center activities in adherence to MARC requirements. Complete required MARC documentation, as assigned. Assist the Coordinator with researching, recruiting, and networking with sponsors for activities, as assigned. Attend training and meetings, as required. Receive inquiries for information pertaining to the Senior Center, filing, and general office duties. Support the relationship between the City of Belton, the Belton Senior Center, and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service; maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and City information; and perform related duties as required or assigned. Ensure job duties are completed in strict adherence with established safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Basic kitchen procedures and basic cleaning
  • Health standards of food safety and kitchen sanitation
  • Program/project management techniques and principles
  • Microsoft Office products
  • Social media and video conferencing (Facebook, Zoom, Teams, etc)
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Exceptional customer service, including the ability to maintain a positive, professional demeanor with integrity and dedication to service
  • Provide lead assistance and provide instruction to volunteers
  • Work independently in the absence of direct supervision
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving
  • The ability to multi-task under moderately stressful conditions; must be able to carry out multiple functions simultaneously
  • The ability to work with a diverse and older population of individuals
  • Proficient skill in using the Internet, Word, Excel, Outlook, and other job-specific software; creating and using spreadsheets
  • Preparing and analyzing data and numerical computations, and comprehensive reports
  • Proficient skill in basic arithmetic, including averages, percentages, and decimals
  • Establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with staff, management, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, outside agencies, community groups, and the general public
  • Maintaining confidentiality and communicating with tact and diplomacy
  • Assisting with assigned programs and services
  • Responding to inquiries with effective oral and written communication
  • High school diploma or GED; prior experience working with the senior community
  • Obtain a valid Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire
  • Obtain First Aid and CPR certification as soon as practical
  • Training on MARC Aging and Adult Services and HIPPA will be provided
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stand, sit, and walk for long periods at a time
  • Must be able to climb stairs
  • Must be comfortable driving 60 minutes or more at a time, including residential and highway driving
  • Dependability and consistency in daily work hours is a must
