Requirements

  • All candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • All candidates must have either a Licensed Practical Nurse license or Registered Nurse license.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in a school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide healthcare and nursing services to scholars and maintain records regarding healthcare and nursing services;
  • Communicate daily with scholar families regarding healthcare and nursing services;
  • Administer authorized medication to scholars throughout the school day, maintain up-to-date medical authorization forms, and maintain secure inventory of authorized medication on campus;
  • Develop individualized plans for school based scholar health care in conjunction with scholar’s medical providers and family;
  • Organize and perform health screenings per state and federal guidelines including but not limited to hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings;
  • Serve as a consultant for other school professionals for matters including but not limited to 504 plans, Individualized Education Plans, and School Wellness Policies;
  • Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings;
  • Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure health and safety;
  • Oversee infection control measures;
  • Actively participate in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school;
  • Serve as liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment;
  • Support and participate in schoolwide and grade level initiatives such as Back to School Night, Spread the Love Week, Black History Month, 100th Day of School, and Awards Ceremony;
  • Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Director of Operations & School Services.
