Job Description The Johnson County Park and Recreation District is hiring for Part Time Park Workers within the Central Region that includes Shawnee Mission Park and the Mill Creek Streamway Trail System. The Part Time Park Worker (Natural Resource Technician) is an entry level position that supports the Park Operations staff in a wide variety of daily operations related to the upkeep and maintenance of park grounds, playgrounds, trails, buildings, equipment, and natural areas within our 10,000 acres of Johnson County’s parks system. With an emphasis on invasive plant control, and general natural resource tasks as assigned. A working knowledge of local flora and fauna and experience with agricultural equipment preferred. Must be willing to apply herbicides within park natural areas. Responsibilities may also include mowing, trimming, cleaning park facilities, landscape planting and maintenance, sanitation collection and disposal, etc. May operate equipment and trucks as trained, assigned, and licensed. The position provides an opportunity to interact with and learn alongside skilled staff in irrigation, horticulture, construction, forestry, natural resource management and other careers in unique green industry fields and skilled trades work. This position is available from March – November but is also available for students seeking a summer work opportunity, as well as other times available out of school. Total hours for this position will be less than 1500. Normal Work Hours: 7:00am -3:30pm M-F, some weekends and holidays required Starting Hourly Wage: $15.00/hr.
