Department: College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Reports To: Manager, STEM Lab LOCATION: Green Bay, WI – Room SC 367 STANDARD HOURS: June 3rd, 2026 – July 31st, 2026 Wednesday’s 12:30pm - 3:30pm AND Friday’s 8:30am - 3:30pm STARTING RATE OF PAY: $15.00 per hour Please also attach the following to your online application: A recent CV listing relevant course work and experience One letter of recommendation A one-page cover letter describing why you are interested in this internship and what you would bring to the research team POSITION SUMMARY Under the guidance of the principle investigator (PI) students will be immersed in an undergraduate research experience where they plan, design, and execute experiments. The experiments will assist the PI with gathering data for eventual publication. The students will be trained in various laboratory techniques including cell biology, molecular biology, and virology. Retroviruses are RNA viruses that infect the host utilizing a DNA intermediate. Over evolutionary time, some of these retroviruses have incorporated into germ cells and became part of the genome of their host (became endogenous). Sometimes, these endogenous viruses can become released, causing a new infection. The Aim of this lab is to determine how the endogenous viruses become released.
