About The Position

Duties and Responsibilities Supports the Program Manager/Department Chair in identifying and tracking students ready for admission into the Medical Coding Limited Access Program including reviewing prerequisites, GPA, and application materials. Provides direct academic guidance to pre- and admitted Medical Coding students regarding course sequencing, certification requirements, and program pathways. Assists in the coordination of student internships by developing and maintaining partnerships with healthcare facilities, ensuring site compliance, and monitoring student placement and performance. Serves as liaison between HC and the AAPC Educational Partnership, coordinating student registration, certification exam scheduling, and reporting requirements. Organizes workshops, orientations, and AAPC chapter events to enhance student engagement and professional readiness. Assists students in preparing for national certification exams (CPC, CPB, etc.) through review sessions, practice tests, and exam registration support. Tracks and reports student progress, attendance, and certification outcomes; supports data collection for program assessment and institutional review. Assists in departmental planning, advisory board coordination, and continuous improvement activities. Maintains confidentiality and ensures compliance with FERPA, institutional, and programmatic policies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Current AAPC certification (CPC, CPB, or equivalent).
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in medical coding, billing, or health information management.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canvas LMS, and data tracking systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in academic advising, student support, or internship coordination in a college or technical education setting.
  • Familiarity with AAPC Educational Partnership guidelines and certification preparation resources.
